Josh Mills won Round 4 of the Cooper Class at Queensland Raceway, heading home Trent Spencer and Zane Goddard to collect the $300 Rubbercraft round-winner cheque and, with it, the lead of the Queensland State Championship.
Spencer’s second place was his best round of the year and lifts him to third in the standings, while Goddard’s third keeps him in touch in fourth. It was a weekend that turned on reliability as much as pace: Bryce Fullwood and championship leader Brock Gilchrist both hit mechanical trouble, and Gilchrist’s lost points hand the series lead to Mills by eleven, 341 to 330, with one round to run.
In Unlimited Class, Jim Campbell took the round win from Andrew Mills and Brayden Larkin. With Gregg Chesterfield absent, the standings have tightened right up: Larkin now leads on 279 from Campbell on 271, Chesterfield on 265 and Andrew Mills on 247, four drivers covered by 32 points with 125 still on the table.
Both titles will be decided at Morgan Park on 6–8 November. Cooper Class is an eleven-point fight between Mills and Gilchrist, and Unlimited could go to any of four cars. Full standings are on the results page.
