Start Racing

New to motorsport or coming back to it — here's how to get on the SuperMini grid.

How it works

Your way to the grid

Get your licence

You'll need a Motorsport Australia competition licence. We'll point you to the right level and how to get it.

Get a SuperMini

Buy or build an eligible Mini — an R53 Cooper S for Cooper Class, or a more developed car for Unlimited. We can connect you with people who can help.

Join & race

Become an SMC member, enter a round and line up. The paddock will help you find your feet.

Membership

Join the SMC

SuperMini Challenge Inc is a non-profit club run by its members. Joining gets you into the championship, the community and the support network that makes grassroots racing work.

  • Entry into the season championship
  • A welcoming, helpful paddock
  • Two classes — the affordable Cooper Class and the open Unlimited Class
  • A welcoming paddock full of mates to race

Competitor membership is $200 a year plus $75 per event entered. REC membership ($5,800) covers every round of the season and adds voting rights and a permanent racing number. Junior membership is $150 and Associate membership starts at $50.

The car

Get a SuperMini

The Cooper Class car is a BMW R53 Cooper S built to the series spec, while the Unlimited Class welcomes faster, more developed Minis. There are two ways to get one:

  • Buy one — ready-to-race SuperMinis come up for sale on my105, Australia's race car marketplace.
  • Build your own — start with an eligible R53 Cooper S and build it to the published specifications.
